Susan Sargison
Senior Classical Ballet Instructor
Susan Sargison is an accomplished ballet teacher and performing arts educator at Jiayin MasterClass, bringing decades of professional performance, teaching, and adjudication experience across classical ballet, contemporary dance, and musical theatre.
Susan began her performance career at an early age, starring as Clara in the Tasmanian Ballet Company’s The Nutcracker. In 1979, she relocated to Melbourne to train at the Australian Ballet School, performing with both the Dancers Company and The Australian Ballet under the direction of Dame Peggy van Praagh. Her classical repertoire includes Giselle, Coppélia, Carmen, and The Three Musketeers, and she was the choreographic muse for Robert Ray’s works Poems and City Dances.
Following graduation, Susan performed with the Heidelberg Ballet Ensemble and the Victorian State Opera, before expanding her career internationally in musical theatre and commercial dance. She toured and worked overseas in Singapore, Japan, the United Kingdom, Portugal, and Vienna, including regular engagements in London’s West End as part of Charles Augins’ dancers at Pineapple Dance Centre.
Upon returning to Australia, Susan performed in the original cast of Seven Little Australians as a chorus member and understudy to the lead role. Her performance credits also include appearances on Countdown and extensive work within Melbourne’s commercial dance industry.
Susan later founded and directed her own dance school in metropolitan Melbourne, serving as Artistic Director for 24 years. She has taught extensively at tertiary dance institutions, delivering Certificate and Diploma programs in Classical Ballet, Pas de Deux, and Contemporary Dance. Since 1991, Susan has been a highly respected dance adjudicator at competitions and eisteddfods throughout Australia, known for her positive, constructive feedback and professional insight. In 2012, she was appointed to the Board of Examiners for the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and the Southern Federation of Dance.
At Jiayin MasterClass, Susan continues to share her passion for dance through expert teaching across all age groups. Her adjudication and teaching expertise spans Classical Ballet, Repertoire, Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Contemporary, Musical Theatre, Song & Dance, Hip Hop, and Acrobatics, offering students a well-rounded and artistically rich training experience.
