Adam Thurlow
Senior Classical Ballet Instructor
Adam Thurlow is an internationally acclaimed ballet teacher and former principal-level dancer, currently teaching at Jiayin MasterClass. Born in Melbourne, Adam trained at the Lorraine Blackburn School of Dance and the Australian Ballet School, where he graduated with Honours and as Dux of his year.
Adam began his professional ballet career with The Australian Ballet under the direction of Ross Stretton, performing numerous soloist and principal roles. He was promoted to Soloist within just two years. In 2002, Adam joined English National Ballet as a soloist, dancing leading classical and contemporary repertoire, before becoming the first and only Australian dancer to join the Opéra National de Paris in 2003.
Throughout his international career, Adam worked with many of the world’s most influential choreographers, including Rudolf Nureyev, George Balanchine, Kenneth MacMillan, John Cranko, Jiří Kylián, Maurice Béjart, William Forsythe, Nacho Duato, Paul Taylor, and Twyla Tharp. In 2006, he returned to The Australian Ballet and was appointed Principal Artist of Melbourne Ballet Company, before pursuing a successful freelance career.
Adam’s repertoire highlights include leading roles in Swan Lake, Giselle, Don Quixote, Manon, The Sleeping Beauty, Raymonda, Cinderella, Nutcracker, Coppélia, Études, Paquita, Apollo, Theme and Variations, and Le Sacre du Printemps. In 2010, he was awarded the Australasian Dance Assessment Sponsorship for Excellence for Project Palette with Melbourne Ballet Company.
