Isabella Rose Cort
Ballet Teacher
Isabella Rose Cort is a classically trained dancer, contemporary artist, and choreographer whose teaching bridges rigorous ballet foundations with creative exploration and contemporary movement practice.
Isabella began her professional training at Queensland National Ballet School in Brisbane, where she completed an Advanced Diploma of Dance (Elite Performance). During her training, she studied under internationally recognised artists and educators including Martyn Fleming, Karen Donovan, and Matthew Lawrence, and excelled across all classical ballet examinations, completing Level 6 with Distinction under the Australian Conservatoire of Ballet Syllabus.
Following her studies in Australia, Isabella was accepted into the Upper School program at Elmhurst Ballet School, the official school of the Birmingham Royal Ballet in England. There, she was recognised for both technical excellence and artistic range, winning the Annual Solo Competition (2018) and receiving awards for Most Versatile Dancer.
After completing her ballet training, Isabella was offered an apprenticeship contract with DJKT Ballet Company (Divadlo J. K. Tyla) in the Czech Republic. Due to significant chronic injuries, she was required to retire from professional ballet, a turning point that led her to expand her practice into contemporary art and choreography.
Isabella went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Arts) with Distinction at Queensland University of Technology, where she was awarded the Hilde Chenall Memorial Scholarship (2024). Her contemporary practice focuses on live improvisation, gallery-based performance, and interdisciplinary choreography. Most recently, she undertook a choreographic residency with Phluxus2’s IndepenDance program, with her work Hold to / Pink Cherry staged at the Queensland Ballet’s Thomas Dixon Centre in Brisbane.
As a teacher, Isabella brings a thoughtful, sensitive, and student-centred approach, encouraging strong technical foundations alongside creativity, musicality, and embodied expression. Her teaching supports dancers in developing both physical intelligence and artistic confidence, making her a valuable mentor for students navigating both classical and contemporary pathways.
